“Held” – The First Completed Work of 2026
“We don’t always let go when we heal—sometimes we simply hold things differently.”
I didn’t start 2026 by trying to make a statement.
I began by stopping and reflecting on what has been achieved over the the last year.
“Held” emerged in that process.
The figure sits inward, one leg folded, the other extending into space, as if suspended between rising and resting. The body is divided. Black and white meet along a thin seam of gold. This seam travels from the head, through the chest, and down the form. This line is not decorative. It is a record. A quiet acknowledgment that separation occurred, and connection was chosen anyway.

At the center of the piece, the figure cradles a gold mask.
It is not worn. It is not hidden. It rests in the hands with care, as something once necessary that no longer needs to live on the surface. The mask still holds value—gold ensures that—but it no longer defines the face. Distance, here, is not rejection. It is clarity.
There is a tension in the posture that feels intentional rather than fragile. The figure is not collapsing, but it is not upright either. It exists in the space between exposure and protection, strength and rest. The restrained palette—black, white, and gold—removes excess and leaves only what matters. Black absorbs. White reveals. Gold remembers.
Behind the figure, two subtle horizontal gold lines anchor the composition. They steady the space without demanding attention, reinforcing the sense that this moment is supported, not suspended. Every element remains deliberate. Nothing reaches outward.
Held is about what we carry after we stop performing.
It is about repair that does not rush to resolve.
It is about allowing something to remain close without allowing it to define us.
As the first completed piece of 2026, Held sets a clear tone for what’s ahead. It emphasizes quieter gestures and deeper intention. The work values presence over urgency.
Some things are not meant to be released.
Some truths endure best when they are simply—held.
