Some love never announces itself. It doesn’t demand attention or take up space—it simply stays. It settles beside you, steady and unspoken. One day it is gone. You then realize how deeply it shaped everything that followed.
Most artworks are carefully planned. Others emerge quietly, shaped not by intention, but by love and remembrance.

Shadow: Echos of Gold belongs to the latter.
This piece was created in honor of my beloved Shadow, who passed away in March of 2020. Shadow was more than a companion. He was a steady presence and a silent comfort. He was a being whose loyalty and awareness filled space without asking for attention.
His absence left a profound stillness, and over time, that stillness found form through art. The composition is deliberately restrained. Shadow’s figure is defined by clean, flowing lines. These lines are set against a deep black field. This allows him to exist between presence and memory. His upward gaze suggests dignity and watchfulness—a quiet strength that feels eternal rather than momentary. This is not a portrait of a single moment, but an impression of who he was and how he remains.
Gold is used sparingly, but with purpose. The vertical gold line speaks to continuity—a passage through time, linking what was, what is, and what lingers. It stands as a constant, unmoved by loss. The gold on Shadow’s chest has a subtle shimmer. It represents the warmth he carried. It also signifies the light he gave so freely.
That glimmer is intentional; it shifts with the viewer’s movement, mirroring how love and grief are never fixed, never still.
The palette is minimal, yet deeply symbolic. Black creates space for reflection and reverence. Cream softens the form, offering gentleness rather than weight. Gold elevates the piece, not as ornament, but as testament—love refined by memory, made precious through time.
The thin black frame serves as a quiet boundary. It holds the work much like memory holds those we love. Memories are contained, protected, and enduring. Warm gallery lighting allows the gold to breathe, inviting the viewer closer, asking for pause rather than interpretation.
This piece is not solely about loss. It is about gratitude. About the unseen bonds that shape us, the quiet companionship that changes who we are. Shadow: Echos of Gold serves as a reminder that those we love never truly leave us. They echo through memory. Their presence is felt through creation. They remain through the light they leave behind.
Shadow may have passed in 2020, but his presence remains—soft, steady, and eternal—in gold.
